UK elections, i Blue dels Fine Young Cannibals

Bé, per primer cop en molts d’anys cap partit ha aconseguit la majoria en les eleccions britàniques – els conservadors han quedat en 305 escons (probablement seran 306 quan entra l’esco que falta), amb el 36% del vot, i no arriben als 325 per tenir majoria. Els laboristes han baixat fins als 258 escons, amb el 29% del vot, i els Liberals han quedat amb 57 escons de 23% del vot.
Amb la meva predicció (300/210/90) he encertat alguna cosa, els conservadors però el que m’ha fet fallar en els liberals ha sigut escoltar el boom mediatic que deia que aquest cop si que estarien al nivell dels dos grans. Dins de mi, ja m’imaginava que no canviarien gaire (abans tenien uns 62 escons) però totes les enquestes els posaven igual que els laboristes. En resumen, les conclusions son que a vegades la media fa noticies on no hi ha, i que el Regne Unit, els votants i el sistema estan dissenyats per un sistema de dos partits.
Fa temps m’hauria amoïnat veure com els descendents de Thatcher tornin al poder, però ara ja no veig tanta diferencia entre un partit i un altre.

So the results are in and no one has a majority. More importantly I almost guessed correctly how many seats the Tories would win (300, when really it’s 305/6), but was taken in by the media boom surrounding the Liberals. I suppose it was clear all along that they’d be stuck way back in third place. My conclusions are that the media has made a story where there was none, with the Clegg phenomenon, and that the UK is still a two party system.
Some time ago, seeing the descendents of Thatcher regain power would have upset me, but I’m past that now, and hardly see any difference between the parties. However, thinking back to a time when politics would affect me, here’s the Fine Young Cannibals with Blue from 1985.
