Stepping out with my baby - Fred Astaire #Easter

Ja que he posat la cançó principal de la pel·lícula Easter Parade (desfile de pasqua) 2 anys seguits, aquest any canviarem - mateixa pel·lí, però una altra peça. És una pena que fa potser 30 anys des de que vaig veure aquesta pel·licula per ultim cop, però quan era molt jove i a Anglaterra passava dies i dies plujosos pegat a la tele, m'encantava tot el que feia Fred Astaire:)

So, Easter time, and this year, we'll change song. Same film, different song;  another one from the Easter Parade film - sang and danced by the one and only Fred Astaire. As a kid, many a rain-drenched TV hour was spent watching his moves :)

Jazz

Ja hem pogut disfrutar del fantastic festival de jazz que tenim a Tortosa aquests dies. Dimecres a la nit, a l'aire lliure, al barri vell, a fora del bar dels Amics dels Castells, van escoltar unes meravelloses versions d'algunes cançons classiques de jazz, gracies al grup Laia Porta i el Dan Posen Trio. 

Va començar tard, i va acabar tard, però, i aixi no vam poder aguantar fins el final, però una de les peces que van cantar va ser aquesta The Way You Look Tonight escrita per Kern i Fields per a la pel·licula Swing Time, 1936. I aqui la teniu. Potser Fred és un millor ballarin que cantant, però a mi m'encanten les seves pel·lis ...i tot seguit, un clip del grup en questió, Laia Porta i el Dan Posen Trio. Don't miss it!!

This week is Jazz Festival Week in Tortosa, and on Wednesday night we finally managed to get round to checking out a concert. A free open-air one, in a square in the old part of town with a fine bar providing (not free) drinks and snacks. A great time was had by all, as we were treated to a treasure chest of classic songs by the likes of Gerswhin, Porter, Bacharach ...by Catalan jazz group, Laia Porta and the Dan Posen Trio.  One of these gems was The Way You Look Tonight (Kern/Fields), from the Fred and Ginger film, Swing Time. Maybe he dances better than he sings, but I just love his movies, so here's Fred ..., swiftly followed by the group themselves, Laia and the boys. Don't miss it!

Easter Parade - Fred Astaire i Judy Garland

Setmana santa, en anglès Easter. Com és habitual, natros la estem celebrant en el part més lúdic, o sigui sortint amb la família, fent manualitats típics, i tipant-nos de xocolata.
Als EEUU es celebrava, però ara cada cop menys, la Easter Parade, literalment la processió de la setmana santa però als EEUU aquesta processió és més una rua de gent estrenant roba nova i passant-ho bé, i no una processió solemne i religiós com aquí a Catalunya.
Al 1948 és va fer la pel·lícula d’aquest nom amb Fred Astaire i Judy Garland, agafant de punt de partida la cançó Easter Parade escrita per Irving Berlin a l’any 1933.

Easter is here. the first cultural difference is that typically school children have this week off in Catalonia, the week from Palm Sunday up to and including Easter Monday – whereas in the UK, they usually don’t break up till Good Friday and then take the following week off. We intend to celebrate and enjoy our free time with the usual Easter crafts, walks out in the country, and plenty of chocolate.
Another difference is the Easter Parade, as in the Hollywood film – apparently in the USA it was (but now less so) a popular informal parade through town when people had the chance to show off their new clothes, with few religious connotations. In Catalonia there are several parades this week (or processions as they call them here) but all very solemn and religious.
Fred Astaire and Judy Garland starred in the 1948 film, Easter Parade, written around the song of the same name composed by Irving Berlin back in 1933. Here is the main song, Easter Parade, itself.

Més records d’estius passats. No sé perquè, però quan era (més!) jove, van passar cada dia una pel·lícula de Fred Astaire a la televisió britànica durant un estiu. Em sonava el nom, i la música però no li havia prestat gaire atenció abans. Vaig mirar la primera i després ja no vaig perdre cap pel·lícula … si, tenien raó, no es movia ningú com ell. Només li faltava fer un moonwalk!
