Continuant amb la segona setmana de cançons amb una petita relació amb obres de literatura, que tal aquesta? Romeo and Juliet dels Dire Straits (any 1980).

Sultans of Swing

Quan vaig començar aquest bloc, vaig dir-me a mi mateix que no entraria mai en la solució "facil" de fer comparisons entre Anglaterra i Catalunya. Per un costat, no tinc la gracia que tenen els grans escriptors que demostren amb molta agilitat i sutilesa aquestes petites diferencies culturals, i, per l'altre costat, tampoc voldria donar l'impressió que un lloc és "millor" que un altre. Sencillament són diferents i suposo que hi ha raons historics que expliquen bé per que a cada lloc i ha diferents habits i customs.

Bé, dos anys he aguantat aquesta temptació pero ja que hem tornat a passar 15 dies a Anglaterra, sentint-ho molt, trencaré la promesa i retrataré 3 o 4 diferencies.

No. 1. Per bé o per mal, al BBC encara emeten les pel·lícules fins el final, el final de veritat. O sigui, que es poden llegir els credits i sentir la banda sonora.

Parlant del qual ens porta a la cançó d'avui. La setmana passada a la radio (no sé quin canal) la presentadora va ficar aquesta joia, pero quan va acabar de cantar Knopfler i estavem a punt de gaudir del llarguissim solo de guitarres, va dir "i aixi s'acaba la cançó" i ho va tallar. Aixi que, avuí ho tenim fins al final .... Sultans of Swing, dels Dire Straits (1978).

After two years of avoiding the temptation to write "easy" posts comparing cultural and social aspects of life in Catalonia and England, I'm afraid the next few days will see a few of such posts.

No.1. The BBC still shows films to the very end with credits and soundtrack included, whereas most Catalan channels cut to the next programme as soon as the credits start to roll.

Leading us on to Sultans of Swing. On the radio this week, the local presenter commited the sacrilege of cutting the song off before the looooooong guitar solo. If you can't bother listening to the full song, why bother putting it on your radio, I thought ....

Twisting By The Pool - Dire Straits

Tornant al tema dels records d’estiu, una cançó que sonava molt – a casa meva – a l’estiu del 1983 va ser Twisting By The Pool, dels Dire Straits. Era el primer estiu amb el meu tocadiscos propi, que per fi havia aconseguit comprar, i treia fum!

Hi ha molt de "insercion desactivada" pel Youtube i, per tant, el vídeo clip que he triat és una mica pobre però si mireu al Youtube podeu veure actuacions dels Dire Straits en directe o el clip original d’aquest tema.



Ultima hora; gràcies a la pista de ntne, crec que funcionarà el clip de veritat ... a vore si hi ha sort...
