La Copa del Món torna a Anglaterra, amb la cançó Three Lions

Ha acabat la temporada del futbol, i ara comença el mundial del futbol! Ens retallen o congelen els salaris, retallen serveis i infraestructures, i molta gent està perdent la feina, però per sort ara ve el futbol i si guanya el nostre equip, pos, la crisi es veurà d’un altre color! Per tant, oblidem els rotllos politics i filosòfics de la vida, i anem a ficar cerveses a la nevera ....

La mala noticia d’aquest any és que, per primer cop des de l’any 1966, l’equip d’Anglaterra no té una Cançó Oficial. Em sap molt de mal, però si és la manera de concentrar-se amb la pilota i acabar amb aquest mal somni de 44 anys sense tenir la copa a casa nostra, on ha d’estar, pos, tot sigui per a la causa ....

Tradicionalment l’equip anglès sempre ha tingut la seva cançó, algunes més bones, algunes no tant. A l’any 1996 per a celebrar que l’esport de futbol tornava a casa seva, o sigui a Anglaterra, ja que hi jugava el European Championship allí, es va gravar la meva cançó favorita de la gama de “cançóns relacionades amb futbol”, la Three Lions (Football’s Coming Home). La van gravar el grup de pop, els Lightning Seeds, juntament amb dos comediants, Frank Skinner i David Baddiel. La lletra és un bon resumen dels, llavors, 30 anys de dolor, que ara ja sumen 44 (hi ha algú que no sap que vam guanyar el Mundial a l’any 1966?).
Encara que no hi ha cançó oficialment aquest any, s’ha fet una nova versió d’aquest hit ara amb la (no gaire encertada) participació de Robbie Williams i Russell Brand. I algú ha fet un vídeo bastant bo per entendre els fracassos i decepcions que hem patit ... fins ara, ja que d’aquí un mes la Copa tornarà a casa un cop més!
It’s coming home ...!

OK, so the footie season has finished, just in time for the World Cup to start! Who said there was a crisis? What does it matter that unemployment is soaring, and the government is raising taxes, lowering salaries, cutting back on public services and investments – what does all this matter if your team can win the World Cup? How easy it is to keep us happy ... so let’s forget the mundane news of politics and disasters, and get some beers in the fridge.

Strange news story of the year was that the FA has not requested an Official England football song this year, for the first time since ’66. Well, if it helps keep minds on the job in hand, so be it. However, Robbie Williams and Russell Brand have participated in a re-make of Three Lions (Football’s Coming Home) – originally a song for the 1996 European Championships. The best ever football song in my opinion. So here’s 44 years of hurt in a nutshell – with a cool home-made video which some kind person has prepared and uploaded.

El dia 16 de febrero es van donar els premis Brits 2010. Alguns premis van ser per Lily Allen, Florence & the Machine, i Lady Gaga entre altres. El diumenge passat van re-emetre el programa pel canal TNT, un programa molt bona per la qualitat i varietat de la música tocada en directe entre discurs i discurs. Per acabar el show, Robbie Williams va guanyar el Outstanding Contribution Award (una mena de premi per tota la seva trajectòria) i ens va regalar 15 minuts d’un medley dels seus hits. Impressionant. A banda de tenir unes cançons molt bones, és un dels millors showmen que tenim. Ha passat per males èpoques – crec que ja es comença a notar amb la mirada – però ara torna a estar animat i dalt de tot. Avui tenim un clip amb el primer part del medley, demà més.

The 2010 Brit Awards were held a couple of weeks ago, with awards for Lily Allen, Florence & the Machine, and Lady Gaga, among others. Last Sunday the programme was shown here in Catalonia on the TNT channel, and was worth watching for the show and songs, if not for the thank-you speeches. After obtaining the Outstanding Contribution Award, Robbie Williams wrapped up the show with a 15 minute medley of his hits. Great songs and a great showman. It seems like he’s back on top again after all the problems he’s suffered. Here’s the first part of the show, more tomorrow...
