Take me to the Mardi Gras #Pancake_Day

Aquí tenim Paul Simon amb el single Take Me To The Mardi Gras del seu LP There Goes Rhymin’ Simon, 1973.

......................
Today is Pancake Tuesday in England. Whether or not the plan is to follow Lent, I think most English people will be eating pancakes today! It is the equivalent celebration to the Dijous Llarder (Fat Thursday) celebrated in Catalonia on the previous Thursday. Of course, we celebrate both – the more “festes”, the better!
As far as I know celebrations take place in New Orleans today too, known as the Mardi Gras, although they’re probably a bit more exciting than downing a plateful of pancakes!

Paul Simon recorded Take Me To The Mardi Gras for his 1973 LP, There Goes Rhymin’ Simon.

  2. You're welcome :)
I love Paul Simon, and this song always gets dusted off at this time every year. Last year I tried it out with my English-learning students, to mixed reactions!!
Do you have Pancake Day in NZ, by the way?

  4. Yes, that's it. Although my religious learning started and stopped at my christening, and we've always called it Pancake Day, as do many people I suppòse. I don't think it really registered with me that it was also known as Shrove Tuesday, and that it should be the start of Lent, till I started teaching English and students quizzed me!! Maybe if Charlton Heston had made a film about Shrove Tuesday .....

  5. As a sensitive child, I always felt vaguely guilty all Lent, for not giving up anything.
These days I love the depiction of the meaning of Lent in 'Chocolat' (the movie).
